I believe that the Inauguration of President elect Barack Obama will go down in history as the greatest demonstration of Change in the history of our Nation. Change in that the Government United States of America has not turned a deaf ear to the yearning of it's constituants.  Constituants who want, need, and are compelled to have a voice - a say in what it means to be "United" on issues of public policy, "United" on issues of economic, social, and environmental relevance. "United" without boundaries when it comes to differences in race, religion, cultural heratige, education and financial standing. "United" in our International efforts to restore peace, self preservation and to maintain homeland security.

The unprecidented gesture made by President elect Obama and the incoming administration to reach out, to ask the American Public, that it is poised to serve, "What are your concerns as a citizen and what would you like to Change?" is new, respectful and encouraging. We, the sons and the daughters of former slaves and former slave owners have all finally, been invited to sit down together at the table of brotherhood, to share our concerns with our Government elect regarding how it can more inclusively represent us.  Change has indeed come to America.

Change that suggests the NEW administration has an open mind, a willingness to actually represent the people and the Republic for which it stands by paying attention to us, keeping in touch with us and holding a hand firmly on the pulse of our concerns. This is not business as usual! This is Change in action even before the Inauguration.

I know today, that while black people in New York City still have difficulty hailing a taxi, change is coming.  On August 28, 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King marched on Washington D.C. and proclaimed "I have a dream that my 4 little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."  For President Elect Barack Obama that day has come and I expect that this justice will continue to roll down like water and that many others will be swept up in the righteousness of this mighty stream as we enter the era of Change in America, the beautiful moasic, America the promised land, America is ready for Change!
